This model doesn't have any sound via RF/UHF, so turn the volume on the TV to minimum. The sound is produced by the Spectrums internal speaker. If you want louder sound, connect an amplifier to either the Mic or Ear tape sockets. There is a difference in level between these though.

Yes, if using RF/UHF you will get a less clear picture. The vertical banding may be reduced if you change these four ceramic capacitors C5, C6, C7 and C8. Remove the existing parts and fit either 470nF or 1µF types. If you don't have four, try just changing C5 and C8.

The ZX Spectrum needs a rather large audio signal. Most modern audio devices are marginal at best. So you may need an audio amplifier. Both the Ear (tape input) and Mic sockets ONLY work with mono plugs.

If using a tape deck, don't have the Mic plug connected during LOADing.
