ZX-WESPI - add a cheap wifi-enabled fileserver to your Zeddy!
Re: ZX-WESPI - add a cheap wifi-enabled fileserver to your Zeddy!
If anyone fancy i've made a bigger space for WESPI, 3MB free on a 8MB module.

Re: ZX-WESPI - add a cheap wifi-enabled fileserver to your Zeddy!
I finally started to try and fit one of these but had no heat shrink tubing so decided to put the components on a bit of verroboard instead. Wish I had cut the board a bit bigger…
Red is 5V and black is ground.
The wires go to the Wespi and the other side of the board will have wires going to the zeddy.
Any obvious gaffs? Most importantly is the tantalum capacitor the right way round?
Thanks!

What I've heard about capacitors it that normally (-) is marked, but on tantalum the (+) is marked. As I'm new to electronics, we better have the experts reply.
Re: ZX-WESPI - add a cheap wifi-enabled fileserver to your Zeddy!
On my Wespi the (+) is with the line mark.

Thanks.
I could see a + on it which is slightly closer to one side than the other so went with that.
Fingers crossed.
Certainly not going to connect it up before someone who knows what they are doing has a look.

Apparently tantalum capacitors can explode…

Sorry Lardo, don’t bother applying for a job in a Chinese sweat shop, you won’t get the job! The density is not high enough because the board is far bigger than needed…Lardo Boffin wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 8:49 pm I finally started to try and fit one of these but had no heat shrink tubing so decided to put the components on a bit of verroboard instead. Normally when using strip board / Veroboard, tracks are cut either using a track cutting tool (a drill bit set in moulded plastic, which forms a handle) or a normal HSS metal drill bit. You twist it where there is one of the 1mm diameter holes until the copper track is completely broken.Lardo Boffin wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 8:49 pm Any obvious gaffs? Yes, the capacitor is mounted with the correct polarity.
Aw, where’s the fun in that! Exploding capacitors are fun, fun, funLardo Boffin wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 9:33 pm Certainly not going to connect it up before someone who knows what they are doing has a look.![]()

Ahh. Not really done much with veroboard before.1024MAK wrote: ↑Fri Feb 11, 2022 10:04 pmNormally when using strip board / Veroboard, tracks are cut either using a track cutting tool (a drill bit set in moulded plastic, which forms a handle) or a normal HSS metal drill bit. Search for “stripboard track cutter tool”…1024MAK wrote: ↑Fri Feb 11, 2022 10:04 pm Normally when using strip board / Veroboard, tracks are cut either using a track cutting tool (a drill bit set in moulded plastic, which forms a handle) or a normal HSS metal drill bit.
