You be careful though, Lardo, 6 months from now, you'll open a cupboard and wonder why you have so many ZX81's! :lol:

It does get addictive :)
Have you (either of you) got seven or more (or was it nine that I have :lol: ) :?:

At least they are small :P

(Unless attached to a third party keyboard...)

Mark
ZX81 Variations
ZX81 Chip Pin-outs
ZX81 Video Transistor Amp

:!: Standby alert :!:
There are four lights!
Step up to red alert. Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb :!:
Spring approaching...

err, one in a dean electronics keyboard.
8 of differing ULA's, bugged ROM, eproms, Issues PCB etc
A kit.
A US ZX81 and a TS1000.

Another which is my daily driver Zeddy.

And a few more in various states of dis-repair.

I wonder where they come from!

..and I'm reporting Lardo to the RSPOUZAD (royal society for the prevention of using Zeddies as door stops) ;)

Who's joking? I have a big dog and I know where you live. :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:

Plus I got another zeddy on the road yesterday after staring at the pile of kit in the corner for God knows how long,so it seems you are inspiring at least one of us Lardo to get his finger out and do something with his box of bits. :lol:

At this point Moggy saddles up his big dog,Tyson,and heads south.

@Fwapp.

That Dean keyboard is one that passed me by, looks nice.

@RetroTechie

The DK board I always felt was made by the same company who made the rather cheap and nasty looking Kayde keyboard. My reasoning being that Kayde is the reverse phonetic pronunciation of DK,(tenuous I know) plus they were both manufactured in the "lovely" seaside town of Great Yarmouth more know for tacky tourism than the manufacture of anything let alone keyboards and the chances of two keyboard manufacturers being in the same seaside town seems rather slender.

I also seem to remember Kayde produced a graphics ROM with more or less identical coding to one produced by DK.

http://www.zx81stuff.org.uk/zx81/hardware/4KRom

They also use the same grey and red keys with identical stick on legends.

Moggy - it's a nice keyboard, certainly better than the Maplin one we had bitd.

It looks like Dean Electronics did different cases for that keyboard..

You like the Kayde board?
God no! It's a terrible bloody thing.

Cheap peel off transfers, the worst moulding ever made and in my case I have had to wrap tin foil around the ribbon cable as the repeat key electronics kick out some awful radio noise which sets me telly all of a quiver every time I press certain keys and the burping noise it sends through my sub-woofer is a joy to behold. :lol:

Love the full length space bar on the Dean by the way. :D

I consigned my Maplin K/B to the bin years ago, a shoddy piece of crap IMHO.

If you ever get the chance go for the Fuller K/B. Whilst the case is a bit shoddy and brittle it has the nicest/smoothest action of any K/B I've owned better even than Memotech plus both the RAM(depending on which one you get for this bit because the board fits a different way in some cases) and p/supply(on all cases) fit internally.
