On the subject of preservation...

Without disregarding the excellent work Simon has done on preserving ZX81 software, I think we still lack one FTP site for everything related to the computers covered in these forums. WOS does have some ZX81 material, but it's the world of Spectrum, and I feel that non-Spectrum stuff should have its own place. If we had such ftp we could organize the preservation efforts and upload magazines, newsletters and books in pdf format, articles from magazines, .p and .o files, tape inlays, etc.

I, for example, should give the example and help. I scanned and uploaded the following file this week:

I wish I could host the ftp myself, but I can't. While I wait for that ftp to become a reality, I will keep scanning and uploading everything to WOS. These are the next things I'll upload, sometime this month:

-Articles from the magazine 'Radio-Electronics', which include projects to build a house controller, an 8KB non-volative ram board. a speech interface, etc.
-All the Sync magazines that I have, in jpg and in pdf.

@Rich: Sorry to ask for yet another sub-section, but I humbly ask for a preservation section, just to discuss these subjects.

Well that would be really great to have an FTP exclusive for the zx81
Some time ago I start buying some zx81 books and I enjoy not only reading but also typing the programs on the emulators and some times on the real hardware too, all in all I think that my contribution will be in the form of P files from books and manuals.
I will take a look at the book that you scanned
Xavier Arbos from Spain own a WEB site in spanish with a very interesting sort of material, but I can't contact him because I do not know his mail address and the site look abandoned

Ah, but unlike WoS, we do not know the copyright status of many of these files, or do we?

Well, I can tell you what I know:

-I have full permission from Mr. David Ahl, editor/founder of Creative Computing, to scan and distribute/share scans of all his publications. This includes (but isn't limited to) all Sync magazines. I'm in the process of scanning more than a dozen of them and will upload them soon to WOS.
-I have full permission from Mr Lionel Bender to scan and share the book 'Make and program your own robots'. I already scanned and uploaded this one to WOS.

Regarding TZXs of ZX80 and ZX81 tapes, you are correct, I don't have nor know the permission status on these. Maybe Simon would know? I plan to contact some of the authors and obtain permission myself, for example, for the ZX81 Learning Lab software.

And regarding all the other newsletters and books, it's the same as above. I do my best to find the original authors and/or publishers, but some companies disappeared and the author has passed away (honest) or can't be found, etc. I once asked the TS2068 group what their opinion was, and the general consensus was that the material should be preserved and shared, but if the original author contacted us and asked for his work removed, it would be done that same day.

If Rich doesn't want to be involved with the issues involving the preservation efforts, I totally understand. I think that if my financial situation improves in the near future, I wouldn't have a problem hosting the ftp myself.

On a side note, I think I may ask the TS2068 users this same question. The 2068 yahoo group is complicated, difficult to navigate, and the way the files and docs are stored is terrible. There should be some kind of forum for them and some kind of ftp too. I won't ask to join TS1000 and TS2068 users under one site because that might be too much and some people might not like it.

Sure, but keep in mind their activity is very low, compared to a few years ago. It may be a good read, but unfortunately they're not as active as ZX81 users. Oh, and you have to have a yahoo e-mail account to access the group.
