SoundTracker for ZX81 ?
Re: SoundTracker for ZX81 ?
OK guys,
can I send to anybody (with real HW) some my SoundTracker song, made on ZX48 with AY-interface to convert it into ZX81, load on it and record in MP3 from real hardware - for me?
I'd like to hear how does it sound.
And if anybody would be so kind to do it for me, should it be regular STracker song in TAP, or compiled song in TAP (without address specified)?
Cheerz,
Y

The only format for the 81 at the moment is STC or PT3 the tracker Andy has created uses SNG for its basic format then the compiler he created converts to STC.
The chip is the same as Yours so if You want to hear the effect just load Your song into Vortex2 or any tracker like that and lower it by 2 semitones or change the chip frequency to 1625000 to hear what it sounds like on the 81.

aha. So - as I thought. A compiled STracker file without any address set up. That's what STC is.
OK, later today I'll upload some of my STC file and I'd like to ask somebody with a proper machine to record the song for me. I'm just curious. If it works - then don't hesistate to write me for music, if required.
Thx.

No problem Yerz , I have already downloaded a couple of thousand files from the zxtunes site including Yours and they all work just fine.

Re: SoundTracker for ZX81 ?
Hi Yerz,
Welcome back, have not seen you post for a while
the format of my uncompiled SNG is basically a dump of the whole song data that is in memory, the compiler however as far as i can tell produces identical results to that of the spectrum compiler for any identical song data. I'm not entirely sure how the spectrum save the song data, if it's just a raw dump of the memory also it should work.
but in anycase the compiled STC files will work just fine in the basic player.
Regards Andy

One for the tracker?

I wonder how many chips would be needed to generate it?

Re: SoundTracker for ZX81 ?
Seeing as Andy has put in so much slog with His tracker and helped Me out when asked, I felt it only fair to have a go at making some kind of a noise with it.
looking at the short example of the Dr Who theme provided by Matthew Westcott in his tracker tutorial, I thought it would be nice to do a full length version.
This is the first time I have ever used a tracker so I make no claim for musical originality nor do I think it is any good.
It was merely an exercise to get used to a different way of composition than what I'm used to.
Hopefully it might encourage others to have a go at something more original.
I have included the original SNG file so others can see how it was constructed in the tracker and also the compiled STC file.
If it is run on a software player meant for the Speccy then it needs to be lowered a couple of semitones to hear how it sounds on the 81s' AY unit.
(This was used with the Xpand and AY unit)
Have fun
Moggy.

A ZX81-cluster, each Zeddy with it's AY-chip and a network card ....

Siggi
Upps. AFAIK there are currently only 3 Zeddynet-Zeddies running ...
My ZX81 web-server: online since 2007, running since dec. 2020 using ZeddyNet hardware

@sIr Morris... LOTS.
@Siggi - if enough sound modules are about, who know what can happen.
@moggy, It's Cool, not sure what the high pitch bit is about, kinda doesn't sound right to me but erm... i don't do music much... Oh and i took the liberty of changing the first line (00) of channel A from 'C 5 700' to 'C 5 7F00' else when it loops round at the end channel a is still doing an AY envelope. Now then how long till we get an original work from you ?
I think we should get Yerz to do us a ZX81 song

Oh crap....
Whilstg playing with the DR who tune i found out i appear to have broken the sample editor, namely the frequency adjust ( otherwise known as additional effect ) when you try and change a value it crashes ! Whoops, i'll get on to it straight away....
