I was watching that listing and wondered what the extra weird looking device was. I'd guessed it looked like a microphone of some kind, so thanks for confirming it.

I won the auction for the other similarly good looking one that went for £31 delivered. Fractured keyboard tails (I can probably get away with cutting those back) but otherwise mint with a great looking UK700 PSU and manual. :)

A couple of boxes waiting for me when I got back from work:

The sleeve zeddy works, as does the RAM pack. The postal box zeddy doesn’t boot sadly. Its a kludge fix so fairly early.

All in very nice condition.

A couple more…

One boots and works fine the other just gives a white screen. The Memopak works fine.

The zeddy in the full box is a slightly unusual issue one:

I don’t remember having a USA zeddy like this before (although probably have all things considered…)

Having trimmed the keyboard membrane this now seems to be working well and gives a great picture!

Looking at those inductors just above the reg' I would say this a Sinclair made US ZX81 board, as opposed to a Timex TS100 one, that's been played around with, ( IE had it's conductor strip removed and a UK modulator fitted ), and stuffed into a UK case. Never seen red solder mask on a standard UK board either.

The non-working zeddy is a beige PCB with a 649 ROM!

Makes a change from the usual 622 / beige combination I seem to get. This one has a ULA several weeks later than those with the 649.

Now to try to get it to boot…

I did wonder about that. Maybe they were short of boards.

I've edited my post to say that I think it's a Sinclair board made for the US and not a Timex one and has been butchered for UK use.
