Memotech hardware

Post by timsenecal »

Guys,

new member here... what i own... an original Timex Sinclair ts1000 that was purchased way back in 1983, a timex 16k ram pack that was purchased with that ts1000, and a set of memotech 16k ram pack, memotech word processor, and the memotech centronics parallel pack. at the time i got the package deal that had both the centronics pack and the seikosha gp100, but the seikosha was very quickly "upgraded" to an epson rx80. i also purchased a third party fullsize keyboard that plugged into the same sockets as the original membrane keyboard. after all that, i then bought a board that added composite video out, and connected that to an original apple IIc monochrome green phosphor monitor. i was killing it back then. since then the keyboard has died, and both the seikosha and epson printers have long since disappeared. I am getting back into the retro scene, and am wondering how much of this equipment (if any) would be able to be used with a zx spectrum or timex sinclair 1500 or 2068 as well as my ts1000

Hi Timsenecal,

Welcome aboard.

You can use them with the TS1500.

On the Spectrum, the memory can be used on the 16k release, but i don't know with the 48k.

The "word processor" or "Memocalc" can't be used on the Spectum, it patch the original Zx81's rom...

The Centronic ROM will corrupt the Spectum ROM too...

Thank you XavSnap,

i was afraid that the ram pack would be the only one that would work with the spectrum or 2068.

That’s a great collection for a ZX81. Please don’t put it in a box, and use a Spectrum instead.

I agree with Martin, use them and enjoy them on a ZX81. :D

I have the Memotech memory unit,Z80 assembler, Centronics interface, the memotext word processor and the hires unit and wouldn't dream of locking them away.

Did you ever get the ROM content from Memotext? Would be happy to get a copy.

Hi Tim,

You may want to also check out the groups.io TS2068 list. There's a bunch of folks active there, with both TS1000 and TS2068s. We have a monthly group meeting on Zoom (next one is Monday, March 7th, 9-11pm EST) that is then posted to YouTube.

The folks there would probably love to hear about your system and help you get caught up.

Best,
David

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But, in practice, there is.
