SD card reader for ZX81

Post by dizzy33 »

Hello,

does anybody know where can I find a SD card reader for ZX81 ?
A few years ago we could find a "ZXPand" interface, but I can't find it anywhere now.
Do you know where I can find such a product ?

Thanks

It is now the "ZXpand+" interface - these are made in very small batches by the designer at present and sold through sellmyretro.com - they can sell within minutes unfortunately!

Thanks for your answer. But as this product is hard to find, isn't there any alternative ?

There is also a vdrive (a usb port for usb sticks from ftdi) which is a little more tricky to handle as it has no new commands. It works via PRINT USR 8888,"LTEST.P" for loading Test.p
or PRINT USR 8888,"D" for Directory etc
It's described in the forum.tlienhard.com.
Except from this there is a ZXPand for minstrel 3 computer, both from Tynemouth Software.
Kind regards Paul

Another possible alternative is the TZXDuino which emulates a cassette player and uses SD cards to hold the files.

You load files the traditional way, typing LOAD "" then pressing play on the TZXDuino (after selecting the file from the onscreen menu on the device). Loading is slow but you could argue that this is more authentic :)

Saving files is not supported. I don't know whether the other devices mentioned in this thread allow you to do this either.

They're very easy to find on ebay or you can make your own if you have the skills.

The ZXpand+ interface (and the earlier ZXpand interface) do allow files to be saved to the SD card.

I was told that ZXPand+ preorder is possible at the moment. So be quick!
