iv tried to use the software farm hi res program to re create a sprite. unfortunately, it looks nothing like the original. it only has 128 possible binary combinations for each line on a 8x8 udg and some of these are even duplicates. is there another way of doing this so i can use all 255 possible bit combinations? i'd rather e something i can access from basic like the software farm program. any help would be much appreciated.

You are talking both about UDG (user defined graphics) and PSG (pseudo hires graphics).

Software Farm made software with PSG, and few combinations are available here. That’s why it’s called pseudo hires.

UDG requires special hardware. Here you can create custom fonts with user defined characters. Here all combinations are possible. Hardware expansion that supports this are: Quicksilva UDG, UDG4ZXpand, Chroma interface.

If you want to create graphics with all combinations the WRX hardware modification is the way to go. Hardware needed is: Regular RAMpack modified with 2 germanium diodes, or ZXpand (which has built in support).

If you have WRX support, “drbeep” has made software to simulate UDG from Basic.
