They aren't Rembrandts Ferraris or some other type of pension plan. :D
They were made to be used and as much fun as possible to be extracted from them.
Why dig an old tv out of the skip? three solder joints(now watchable on any tv) one switching regulator(less bloody heat) and one Zxpand(one second and not six mins to load football manager) later and you can have a perfectly good but now USABLE ZX80.

Could always put it in a nice glass cabinet and polish it occasionally I suppose.

Never quite got the "careful it's fragile" reverence for the 80 which in my experience is a damn sight stronger electronically than the 81 and certainly more hardy than the speccy.

Use it abuse it but above all enjoy it that's why Uncle Clive made it!!

This is one of my usual Thursday afternoon too much single malt rants Britain4 please feel free to ignore me like everyone else does.
I know it's a controversial one! :D

I do agree with you in principle. I mean I am competent at soldering so it's not that I'm afraid I'd break it but ZX80s are so rare in this untouched condition I'm trying to preserve its originality as long as possible. Maybe since I no longer have a classic car I'm trying to fill the void somehow

I've quite happily done everything under the sun to my ZX81 but my 80 will be staying untouched ;)

That said I do plan to use it and have fun with it with my ZXpand etc as soon as I can get it to sync on a TV, it's not going to be a museum piece!

I've got a steadily growing collection of malts at home I need to start working down haha but all the cuts on my hands are healing up at the moment so I don't want to add to them!

Understood B4, my void was British bikes and the German NSU Quickly moped.
Both of which became very expensive!

Let me know when the xpand arrives and I'll dump the contents of my SD card on here. some of the software is a bit naff as to be expected but I have 1k chess all of Paul Farrows slow mode stuff plus a football manager ripoff and a band manager sim if you are into such things and at least it gives old zeddy something to do. :D

Another maltster, the world just got better!

I thought my last AY unit from you looked a bit messy.

Any communicable diseases I should be aware of?

My ZXpand has arrived safe and well - that would be much appreciated!

I used to have Minis, bloody loved them to bits but started doing too many miles and couldn't afford a weekend car any more :( never seen the NSU before but that looks very cool!

I do love my malts but I'm happy as long as I've got Laphroaig in!

HMMMM LAPHROAIG! (imagine Homer Simpson saying HMMMM BEEER.)

Anyhow just a few things for the zeddy to play with.

I have had to put them in folders because although there is relatively little material here the new ROM has a couple of bugs in it. the pertinent one here being that when you use the command CAT to list files, should they need more lines on the screen than is available the "MORE" command will appear meaning press newline to list the rest of the files.
Instead of listing said files the screen just blanks so rendering extra files unlist-able/unload-able hence the need for folders although as ZX80 software is so sparse this may not be a problem.

Also if you have a BASIC program listed and use the CAT command the bottom few lines of the BASIC listing doesn't clear and the "MORE" command will be jumbled up amongst the un-removed lines.

Have fun.

Haha I'm having trouble envisaging that one!
That's cool thanks for taking the time to get them uploaded! Will be nice to have something to do on it. I actually thought you meant ZX81 files for some reason - my ZX80 kit isn't ready yet as I think the ROMs are being rewritten.

I don't think I'll ever have enough files on there in the same folder for the bugs to ever be an issue.

I have tried a couple of bits of flicker free stuff on it with the ZX8-CCB and no more sync issues :D

Try here for all your zeddy stuff..
http://www.zx81stuff.org.uk/

A well run site with everything carefully checked,I've posted a sudoku program from this site for you to try. I used it to solve what was supposedly the hardest puzzle in the world, the zeddy cracked it in seconds!

Not really much in it as ZX80 stuff is so rare but something to do all the same.

Some more here...
