Jim Bagley's ZX81 Racing

Post by Baggers »

Game title : Jim Bagley's ZX81 Racing

Game Author : Jim Bagley

Machine Specs : ZX81 with 16KB ram + WRX Hires enabled

Controls for Main Menu:

1 = Change current track ( 1-8 )
2 = Play a survival game ( car starts driving at 160mph, and you have to get around the track without crashing, each lap you do, increases the speed by 4mph )
3 = Play a speed game, see how fast you can complete 10 laps, if you crash, your speed drops to 0, and you have to accelerate again to get back up to speed, until you finish all 10 laps.
4 = Show highscore table for Survival mode
5 = Show highscore table for Speed mode

Controls for ingame:

Q or 7 = Accelerate
A or 6 = Brake
O or 5 = Left
P or 8 = Right

The joypad on ZXpand should work, but I've not been able to check it yet ( not until Thursday ), so any feedback would be appreciated.

Well, this looks great.
So finally there will be no opponents?

Not in this release, as it was too difficult overtaking them :)

I may make it a car that drives at a set pace, but you don't collide with it, but have to beat it.

My only suggestion is that the steering seems a little sensitive, but this is on the EightyOne emulator and is something that I can learn with practise.

Overall though, good work! I like the title screen.

Shaun.

Great game,

1 question:
You wrote the standard characterset to a hires screen, isn't it?

Great work (even if I end up often in the tire wall :D )

Thanks all :)

The steering is a little sharp, because I didn't want it easy, it's a game after all, it takes a while to master, and feels really good when you're power sliding around the corners, don't forget don't go full speed into some of the tight corners, you just won't make it, it's not all about going flat out, close to flat out but not always flat out.

@Shaun_B, Thanks, and yes, keep practicing, it's great when you get good at it.

@karingal, Thanks for letting me know it works well in Spud81 :)

@Zsolt, keep with it, it will be gratifying when you master it like I have!

@dr beep, Thanks, and yes, it's the standard rom set, which I will need to fix for ZXpand, as I believe I need to page the ZXpand rom back out, so will update at the weekend, when I'll have the real thing to try it on :D

Is the bug-fixed version up yet Jim? ;-) Or is that 'bug' actually a feature...?

Shaun.

Not yet Shaun, I didn't get chance to look at it last night, let alone fix it.
