LOL price

Post by Lardo Boffin »

I saw this zeddy complete its sale on eBay and felt obliged to start this thread off!

http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sinclair-ZX81-P ... Ciid%253A1

It's not even boxed - am I missing something about it being rare? Or was it just a random bidding war?

The PSU in the sale is a ZX80 PSU... I suspect that is what caused the higher than expected bids...

Early ZX81's came with ZX80 PSU's if you bought one, as they were an "optional" extra. I'm guessing that the bidders were hoping that the Zeddy pictured is early (2c158e ULA, maybe bugged ROM, spongy feet) The other "tell tales" are RF leads like in the picture below and the tape leads are like the ZX80's - not shown, but they are around here somewhere!

Ahh! A bit like the issue one Spectrum with the dead roach and fawn coloured keyboard? I have one of those (serial number 1499 of about 5 million) and it cost me plenty.

I saw another zeddy a while back with that type of RF lead and didn't bother to bid. I don't think it went for much either.

I will know for next time.

Also ring-bound manual vs spine-bound. Is that a thing?

Think the perfect bound manuals were later on, the couple I've got are reprints of the second edition. Having said that, I've also got a ring bound 2nd
edition re-print :)

Yup concur with that ring bound issue one, proper binding issue three onwards.

Not forgetting there was also a slimmed down smaller sized version of same manual which I'm sure I possess somewhere or other.

Also my ZX80 power supply and cables are for sale £5000 each, no euros, dollars or Venusian loobdingles accepted.

EDIT.

Just dug it out, not smaller only slimmer 160 odd pages as opposed to 212 in the full version third reprint 1983.

I hope so!

The one on the left is first edition and the right is second edition.

I have a couple of perfect bound ones and both show two reprints from the second edition.
