what is this recessed-keys keyboard thing?

man there are a lot of T/Sinclair 1000s for sale now. It's like everybody realized they can get back what they paid in 1983
Anyways, this caught my eye, i don't recall ever seeing one. Some kind of rubber put over the membrane so you can feel the location of each key?
