ZXpand+ ROM
ZXpand+ ROM
Hi,
where can I find the ROM-version 7.1 for the ZXpand+ ?
My ZXpand+ is broken. There are still the LEDs blinking after a reset but I am getting only a white screen.
So I thought it might be a good idea to check the Winbond Eeprom.

Re: ZXpand+ ROM
Make sure the spand is properly seated on the edge connector as sometimes regardless of LED flashes you end up with a white screen when this isn't so, also make sure all the chips are properly seated and the edge connector cleaned.
Final recourse would be to re-flash the firmware and if necessary the CPLD image. The method of doing this can be found towards the end of the manual, entitled "Firmware Updates", found here....

The latest firmware BIN file and the CPLD files are found here..

Re: ZXpand+ ROM
Hi Moggy,
but where is the ROM-file?
I read here that balford had a broken Overlay-ROM:
https://www.sinclairzxworld.com/viewtop ... f=7&t=1823
I cleaned the edge-connector, pulled all chips out of their sockets and back again.
Did the CLPD and the Firmware reflash but still nothing.
It's not a plane white screen but more of a crumbly one.

Re: ZXpand+ ROM
I'm not sure if Sir Morris ever made the actual overlay ROM image for the spand+ available.
Balfords post refers to the older issue 1 and 3 spands for which the ROM image was available.
If all else has failed re flashing etc then the remaining options as I see are to contact the Slovakian supplier of the spand, if yours is recent and came from him, and see if he is willing to supply the ROM image. also as an afterthought, if your spand isn't cased check and see if you haven't accidently knocked off any of the SMD's whilst handling it. It's something I've been guilty of.
Finally the emulator Eighty One uses an overlay ROM image for the spand but how closely it represents the real kit image I can only guess as I don't have the Latin for these kind of things.
I have attached the ROM image for you to check.

Re: ZXpand+ ROM
On this forum, this is the ZXpand+ Firmware Updates topic.
Don't know if it helps, as I forget what is in the zip files and I currently can't look as I'm on a mobile at the moment.

Re: ZXpand+ ROM
That section only contains the BIN files for firmware updates not the overlay ROM file that Mork seeks which as far as I can recall Charlie never released.

Re: ZXpand+ ROM
The overlay file is available in the EightyOne ROMs folder, if you want to have a go at burning it yourself.
The ZXpand+ wiki also has instructions on how to dump the rom content to the SD-card.
