Wespi wiring guidance on a ZX81+38

Post by lardbloke »

HI everyone,

I have been a long time lurker on this forum. I have recently constructed a ZX81+38 and I would like to add the wespi to it. I cannot seem to find any pin outs for the ZX81+31 board that tells me where I should connect the four wires from the wespi. I presume one goes to the ear, voltage, gnd and vid, but have no idea where on the 81 itself. I have the schematics for both boards, but I dont want to start soldering blindly.

Any help would be appreciated,

Jim

Jim

I have the zx81+38 rev1.10 board and the tape loading is not working. I just ordered the parts to build a zx-wespi and will let you know where I put my connections.

I am building the version with vga support and will let you know where I place the wires

Is your saving and loading currently working with tape and what revision board do you have?

Best

Hi Glenn,

Thank you for the reply, it is very much appreciated. I have built the rev 1.10 too.

Yes, the loading definitely works as it should. I built a Maxduino nano. Upon loading, I enter the usual Load "" command on screen and press enter The screen will go black and look like it has failed, but it hasn't. You can press play on your tape device and it will still load. This can be tested by not using the Load command and just pressing play on your tape device. Then you will see the usual loading lines, but it will not load the program.
I have not saved anything in the true sense. I have played 1 bit music out externally using the external port to a portable speaker, so in theory that does work.

Let me know how you get on and good luck,

Thanks

Jim

My apologies for this late reply…life got in the way

I was able to get zx-Wespi connected to a zx81plus38 r1.10

I used the pins on the expansion port to provide the 5v and gnd
To supply power to the esp32 ensure don’t use the micro b port of the esp32

I used the ear port the tip was connected to d22 and the gnd on the
Esp32 board

Lastly I connected video directly to the composite port
