Reinstalling the TS-1000 keyboard

Post by USAJoe »

What's the secret to reinstalling the TS-1000 keyboard? It seems pretty straightforward, yet I can't get the larger cable to get grabbed by anything. The smaller one is fine. I've looked deep into the socket, and there's no obstructions inside. both of the cables are the same length, and neither has any frays edges showing signs of breakage.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you!

Normally you just carefully push it home. Is it going in as far as the other one?

Although you have to be careful, you do need to apply an even firm force.

If you want to see how far it’s supposed to go, use a piece of paper to try in the socket.

It goes in all of the way. It just doesn't have any tension holding it. It even has a mild crease from being installed before I received the unit. All of the keys were working as well before I opened the unit. It's as if the pins need to be bent towards the opening to provide tension (but I'm not going to try that). Very odd.

If the pins are lose you could try putting a very thin sheet of plastic behind the keyboard romibbon end (on the non conducting side :D) or failing that you may need to replace the socket?

Or get on of these with a proper keyboard and with connectors:

The extra thickness of the wire connectors may make the difference. And it is a much better to use keyboard.
