Had play around with the RF antenna input on this old Sinclair FT1 and connected it to my Zx81 and Zx80. Got a perfect picture although I still need my glasses to see each pixel!

That is a very cool use of the Sinclair Flat Screen TV. Which although i'd heard of it, i' had never actually seen a photo of it in operation until now

Some folk have used one of those inexpensive small OLED displays with their retro computer, but re-use like this is even better?

I actually did it to try the ZX80 as I couldn't get any of my other non CRT ones to hold the display -and had to check it wasn't the computer at fault, which it isn't thankfully This means anything with original RF output can be tuned in. I've had my 48k and Toastrack on there too, but that really is pushing the eyesighht! Very easy to convert as the aerial has no use whatsoever so use a composite video lead and connect positive (centre) to antenna base and negative to RF modulator seat pin.

Does this means the display runs faster as the characters don't have as far to move!!!

Only frustration now is getting software for/to the ZX80!
I have Paul Farrow's Kong & Pacman, bought from Cronosoft in cassette but everything else is stored in .O files and I have no idea how to play them on my tablet either on PlayZX, .wav player or via SD card on TZXDuino!

Any help would be appreciated or even a source to buy cassettes from.

I cannot help with the whys and wherefores of getting an O file on to the ZX80 as I use a ZXpand with mine but should you do find a way I have a couple of O files that are a tad better than the usual mastermind or noughts and crosses fare.

One is a football manager rip off which whilst pleasant enough fails to give the position of the players in the team sheet and unless you are up to speed on what positions 70's 80's footballers played at you can end up wit eleven goalkeepers, no mid field or attack! Fun to play all the same

Also I have a band manager simulation that's handy to while away a few hours.

Finally I have a 1k chess program created by forum member Marste/Stefano that plays to full IDE spec ie castling, en passant under promotion etc and it comes in three flavours, strong weak or flexi (it can play itself or make moves for you) and should not be confused with the rather poor original ZX81 1k chess as once under way it plays a reasonable game for the size of memory involved. In practice though it has been found it's best to make a few opening moves on it's behalf, which the flexi version allows then let the logic take over, as it doesn't possess any form of opening book movement.

A quite hefty thread on it can be found here..
