Just spotted this (it's not mine). Some kind of homemade interface. Looks like a Z80 on it. From the short connector I'd assume it was for a ZX81.
But what does it do?

The description has Z80PIOB1 so I'd say its an I/O interface.
Z80 PIO and CPU are the same size.

Yep, that chip is a member of the Z80 family, but it is not a microprocessor. It is a programmable input/output interface chip. If you want more information have a look at the various documents on this site, especially those about the Zilog PIO...
