Euro 700 PSU

Post by Lardo Boffin »

Hi all

I just got a zeddy which originally was shipped to Beliguim and hence comes with a Euro 700 PSU. It takes a 220V input so would it work if I plugged it into a shaver adaptor?

It does have a small chip in the plastic on the side so will try it using maximum paranoia setting - long extension lead on the drive from the garage RCD connection just in case!

Sure. This should work.
Kind regards Paul

It is happily producing 15.4 volts unloaded so I guess that is ok. :)

Assuming that the various PSU manufacturers (Sinclair contracted out the manufacture of the PSU’s to various companies) did actually use a different transformer (and given the variations in UK700 and UK1200 versions this is not certain at all), the only practical affect, is the DC output voltages could be up to 9% higher when a ‘220V’ unit is used on a supply that is actually 240V AC (which is what most mainland U.K. mains supply feeds actually are, despite the EU mains voltage harmonisation, as there was no requirement in most cases to replace any of the distribution transformers).

However, I suspect that as Sinclair allowed for a wide mains voltage varatation anyway, UK700 units have the same transformer as EU700 units. Your off load test does indicate that the off load voltage is in a similar range to a typical UK700 unit.

The Sinclair UK700, EU700, UK1200, UK1400 etc. PSUs are all class II (double insulated) and don’t require any earth connection. The output is isolated from the mains voltage. So unless you do something really silly (and dangerous), a RCD will not trip.

Step up to red alert. Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb :!:
