Battery backed RAM

Post by Chad »

Hi all,

Having looked over a few different schematics for RAM expansions, a non-volatile area of RAM seems like a popular and very useful feature. These all seem to use a battery to keep a low-power CMOS chip or two powered when the ZX81 is off.

I was wondering if anybody had tried the autostore SRAMs available from Simtek, or FRAM's from RAMTRON to fulfil this role without the need for batteries? Or any similar device from other manufacturers which may have appeared in recent years?

Cheers,

Chad

Hi Chad,

It's on my list of things to do, so I might get around to it sometime before we get flying cars :)

:-) I'm sure I've a few FM1608 FRAMs from an arcade project laying about - if I find them and try it before you I'll let you know!
