That Panasonic SlimLine would be good, except, like you said, loading original cassettes is problematic. Have you had experience with any cassette recorders in the less than $30 price range that have worked well-e.g. saved and loaded both programs you wrote and cassettes from the 80's? If so, what are they called?
Thanks

Would you recommend a good type of recorder (e.g. Panasonic Slimline, not just Panasonic.)
Thanks
What I meant was, that recommended Sony one is on eBay in your price range.

I checked that Sony recorder--and it seems good, but it's pricey--$30 and up! Have any cassette recorders worked flawlessly for you and cost less? (as in about $20)

LOL, I'm not making myself clear... the Sony one that was recommended is on eBay (several auctions) priced around £15 used. That's what I'm trying to say!

Edit: Oh I see, you're in the States? I'm sorry, I thought you kept saying it was £30 !

Is this the point where I speculate about what may happen if part of the UK (Scotland) splits and goes for independance, and then switches currency from GBP to Euros....

Now, what was the price? £15, or €19 or $26

Haha Mark... well, some would hate a switch to the Euro (can't see that ever happening, personally) but the company I work for would make bucket loads out of consultants fees for "upgrading" our clients systems to deal with it!

I thought there might be a problem with the whole pounds to dollars thing... Not a problem though (this forum is UK based... But anyways, have you (or any other ZX81/TimexSinclair1000 owner) had any good experiences with tape recorders that have worked flawlessly and cost 20 to 24 US Dollars?
Thanks (not a problem about the whole pounds thing--i guess there was a misunderstanding!

I have a Memorex MB1055 that I use to load my TS1000 tapes such as Super Maze. As long as the volume is at 3/4 full volume I have very little problems loading. I haven't tried recording on it yet so I don't know if it'll handle that. I see the Memorex once in awhile on EBay and Amazon for $14.99-$19.99 US Dollars :).

Sounds like a great tape recorder to get! It's not that common on eBay though... Can you recommend a "shoebox" style recorder that has worked for you?
Thanks so much to everyone for helping a beginner out.

Has anyone tried the Philips cassette recorder that's in the Argos catalogue?
