Aah there's always interest :)

A quick google for 16kx4 turned up these:

Which appears to be a drop-in replacement for 2114 (with the extra A lines connected, natch). I quite fancy having a go with these myself :)

Oh, yes, the '164 would be much better - only have to bend up 5 pins. The '166 looks to be just like the 6290.

Hmm it'd be a miracle getting a couple though :(

I've only found one reseller (littlediode) and they're charging uk£13.00 EACH. Yowch,

Thanks for the welcome. I haven't done anything with my ZX81 in at least 15 years but I would like to try it out when I get time. I would like to try a direct video output mod. I also have a 2K TS1000 to try out.

The ZX81 was not my first nor last computer but it's one of my favorites because the hardware is so simple and the software is so clever.
