AZMIC ROM
Re: AZMIC ROM
I think this ROM replaces the whole ZX81 ROM. So it also replaces the char set in the ZX81 with its own.
Re: AZMIC ROM
I once burnt this ROM to an 2764 EPROM and as Martin says it replaces the ZX81 ROM completely, although apart from testing it to see if it worked I did nothing with it, preferring to use the Memotech Z80 assembler interface module.

Re: AZMIC ROM
I came into a bunch of moderately-rare-in-the-US hardware by way of one of the authors of The Timex/Sinclair User's Encyclopedia.
Today I scanned the manual for the American version of the ASZMIC ROM. What does not come through in the scan is the gold color of the cover. Everything else is there, though
I just uploaded a few minutes ago but by the time most folks view this, it'll be ready:

Best.

Re: AZMIC ROM
this rom is a neat concept but the manual is...hard to use. It reads more like a field manual and less like a beginners book. Useful for some I guess. It doesn't help that I need to keep referencing certain chapters just to assemble stuff. How did kids back then cope with this?

Ah. Good old Percy Verance. I remember him well. He taught me not to worry young Julie.

Or children bugged their parents for enough pocket money to buy a computer magazine in the hope that the tips and tricks section or ask a question / letters section would help…

Re: AZMIC ROM
Nice. So it's a replacement environment with assembler and debugger.
However I don't know if it's great to make ZX81 software, as it might require others to have the ASZMIC ROM as well.
Or maybe you need 2 ZX81s. One for development, and one for test.
