ZX81 Homebrew Builders ..

Post by lezanderson »

Hi.

Has anyone thought of making a ZX81 Homebrew DIY builders webpage or similar. Somewhere that tinkerers and builders can talk about what they've made or are making ??

just a Thought !

i can think of 2 pages that spring to mind,

Grant Searle's pages http://searle.hostei.com/grant/zx80/zx80.html
and Rodney Knapp's pages http://www.angelfire.com/ab6/rodneyknaap/zx81_e.html

also check out the german zx-team forum at http://zx81.tlienhard.com/

Maybe talking about Homebrew ZX systems wouldn't be bad right here. 8-)

Best if discussions are posted here. Then if members want or need to link to other sites that hold pictures, photos and diagrams or files for their own recreations, they can.

Maybe both is needed - websites with technical information about how to.
And discussion forum where people can ask questions.
I think they won't start discussions or ask questions at Grant Seamless or Wilf Rigters websites or similar as they wouldn't get answers in a short time.
Just a thought. ;)

Re: ZX81 Homebrew Builders .. - Free Z80s

Post by stevendt »

Hi,

I have a few "fake" Z80s that are free to good homes - for the cost of postage (£1 per packet to the UK).
I probably have a dozen or more, so, if there is any interest, I will dole them out in batches of 3 or so.

These appear to be genuine Z80s, but "fake" in the sense that they are remarked chips, bought as 20MHz CMOS Z80s and marked as such (Z84C0020PEC). They come from a range of eBay sellers. They have been tested by me as working (no guarantees though), but are not 20MHz CMOS parts, they are a mixture of NMOS and CMOS, probably originally sold as 4 to 8 MHz and remarked to command a higher price.

They are probably not suitable for "fast" Z80 computers, but should be fine in ZX81/Spectrum clones etc.

Send me a personal message with your address and I will let you know my PayPal ID for payment

regards
Dave

p.s., it should go without saying that these are NOT for resale, take them if you can use them yourself, but please don't try and stick them back on eBay to make a "fast buck"

er, how can you tell a 'fake' one, i bougĥt a fair load of 20mhz z80s from a seller in china, and would like to know if i've been diddled..theres another seller selling similar but even cheaper, print on chips seems to be different, white, the others were darker, grey/brown/orangey, maybe laser etched?
