Erm... another new program for ZX81 + ZXpand + AY :)
Erm... another new program for ZX81 + ZXpand + AY :)
OK, author(s) of ZXpand project didn't leave us ZX81-users solitary and made a cool device for us.
Hence I can't abandon users of ZXpand either as the software base should be increasing.
Here is another program from me http://zx81.republika.pl/sound_demo.zip
It's just a simple prog for ZX81 with ZXpand and AY-module
and it's entitled simply "The Sound Demo".
As You know, I'm not a coder, so it was a really insane week for me, to make it everything finally work.
But - yes - it does work (surprisingly ).

Title: "The Sound Demo".
Music, demo-code and ideas by Yerzmyey/H-PRG
AY STC-Player for ZX81 by Andy Rea
1K Twister Effect coded by Gasman/H-PRG
Pictures by Factor6/H-PRG and Yerz/H-PRG
**************************************************************
This demo is a version for ZX81 with ZXpand + AY.
PUT ALL FILES IN ONE CATALOGUE/FOLDER AND LOAD SDEMO.P FILE!!!!!!!!!
IT DOESN'T WORK on emulators.
**************************************************************
It *should* work on ZX81 32Kb + ZonX or Mr-X AY-interfaces but probably somebody would have to incorporate the STC file into the main sdemo.p file (especially for tape users). And change the ZXpand's syntax (info below).
##########################
The demo uses some ZXpand syntax that doesn't work on plain ZX81 (ROM issues) -
- line 8000 is for setting ZXpand's RAM into 'high' (to put there 10Kb of music),
- line 8001 is for loading from FAT (SD card) the music file MUS.STC.

Re: Erm... another new program for ZX81 + ZXpand + AY :)
Beware - it's rather nothing special, although was a pretty dificult thing for me to do, I admit.
You guyz made Your hardware/selling work for all of us, so that's at least what I could do in return, to measure of my crap abilities. ZXpand software base is a little bit bigger now.
PS: Hmmm, actually it would be not so bad advert for general retro-freakz on YouTube but I have only TV-antenna/aerial output, so it will take time: I'll try to... erm. Yes. Borrow... Lend... yeah - I'll try to borrow a video-convertor "TV-antenna => RGB monitor" from a friend of mine and then I could video-record the prog to upload it to YouTube with Rich's selling-links mentioned in a description.
Such retro-guys would not pay too much attantion to my crappy coding, but rather to presented ZXpand's possibilities (sound/huge RAM/flash-loading/SD card as an easy communication with PC).

Re: Erm... another new program for ZX81 + ZXpand + AY :)
Why not use a simple video cam or your digicam with video function or your smart phone ? The quality will be good enough to load onto Youtube.yerzmyey wrote: PS: Hmmm, actually it would be not so bad advert for general retro-freakz on YouTube but I have only TV-antenna/aerial output, so it will take time: I'll try to... erm. You don't need complicate technics. The simplier, the better.
Re: Erm... another new program for ZX81 + ZXpand + AY :)
Of course the easiest way is to get someone else to do it for you
Who, me?
I'll see if I can get something for you soon.

Finally got round to checking this out..
Must say that i was pleasantly suprised, it's well presented and was a joy to watch, i kinda like those pictures made out of the block graphics, i was ( and still are not ) any good at doing those.
Well done Yerzmyey, and the other people that helped out.
Andy

what's that Smell.... smells like fresh flux and solder fumes...

Pokemon:
I would consider it if I had a screen on LCD TV. Sadly I collected only CRT TVs for 8bitters, so it wouldn't be possible (stripes on the screen, You know).
SirMorris:
Hahahaha, good one.
Well, if You have some grabber from RGB then it would be possible indeed, now I remember You guyz had RGB monitors on the party, instead of TV-sets. If You had some free moment of time, it would be cooooooool!
Thx a lot.
Moggy:
Thanx dude, still - the machine itself is far better than my sad attempts, hahah.
Greetzzzzz,
Y

Many thx mate; actually it rather shows for real coders what could be possible to do with the full hardware combo, if even such bone-head like me could do anything bearable.Andy Rea wrote:Finally got round to checking this out..

And btw I strongly encourage You and everybody else - who's interested in making graphic on ZX81 - to use a cross-platform gfx-editor made by our coder Gasman (a very cool guy ) -
http://zx81.republika.pl/zxpaintyone_v2.zip
It is supposed to be used on any WWW browser (but Mozilla FireFox is far better than Internet Explorer in this case, so probably also Opera will be better), You draw with Your PC mouse, You have comfortable access to all ZX81 signs/characters - and finally You can export the picture as a *.p file and use in Your own program!
Enjoy!!!
