I get your drift
I suppose if there was a clever player which interleaved all the instructions needed to initiate a read one by one in the delay between samples..
It would be fairly tricky I think.

Re: Speech on the Xpand AY unit
Another suggestion ...... why using an SD-Card?
I could imagine to use an ordinary PC with printer port, connect it with the sound cards ports and transfer the files from the PC byte by byte.
During the delay loop, there is enough time to read several bytes. .....

Hi Sascha.
SD card because I'm using the Xpand with AY unit, and to be honest I don't fancy the idea of trailing an umbilical cord from the PCs printer port (do LPT ports still exist on modern pcs? )
Would putting Your D/A converter at address 8192 on the Xpand allow a bigger sample to be used?
You have to understand I'm not the most technically minded.

Re: Speech on the Xpand AY unit
I did this more to understand just what kind of data Charlies' Xpand BIN loader would accept, it would seem WAVs once renamed *.BIN are perfectly in order.
It uses saschas' D/A jobby and plays four samples one after the other, the basic is very crude but it's the first thing I've really had a go at.
Anyhow it's for the Xpand AY unit lower ramtop to 17400 (CONFIG "R=17400") load SPEECH and run.
It's almost fast enough for a crude "knock knock" type joke teller

Re: Speech on the Xpand AY unit
Are there any video clips online showing this? I have no real hardware and no emulator currently configured to be able to try this, but would like to hear it.
