SoundTracker for ZX81 ?

Post by Andy Rea »

So this thread is long, and had many different versions of the software so was hard to follow, i (think) i've deleted stuff i have uploaded and intend to post the latest (most stable) version here in the first post.
ZXBETA.ZIP
soundtracker, compiler, simple player, and some sample songs
(49.96 KiB) Downloaded 487 times
And instructions written by Yerzmyey from Ay riders can be found here [http://chipmusic.org/forums/topic/6668 ... ction-ayym

original first post below:-

So i keep thinking this should be possible, i know from my experiments that the ST player is smaller, and quicker, so why not write (or convert the original spectrum version) for zx81.

could be a bit of a mamoth task.

what do ya reckon? worth doing ?

done some preliminary work, some idea down on paper and a few space usage calculations... with just 31 unique patterns of 64 steps each , 15 ornaments, 15 samples, will use up almost 20K  (uncompiled)... add another 2K for the player code and d-file, and that leaves me about 10K for the program :geek:

Think this is one task where a slow methodical approach is needed, something that i don't do well

If it was me ... I'd consign this one to the 'interesting idea but life is too short' pile.

Players are more important - it's not like the trackers are non-existent. Sorry Moggy ;) But I think even you would start to tire of working on the '81 quite quickly ;)
