Hi Charlie

Does it work with Kmurta's player or aint we got that far yet good Sir Knight?
I've converted a few more midis that sound reasonable on the Zonx it would be nice to hear them on Your new AY thingy, which sounds pretty good by the way. :D

Regards as ever Charlie.

Ah a great moment it was too, smiles all around when the 'classic' AY tune started to blast out. Well done Sirmorris.

Seriously considering taking the AY chip out of an old speccy now :D

Go on! Whip it out!

@Moggy - yep. The board responds to both sets of 'classic' zon-x addresses. It plays the pink panther very nicely.

I took the mixer from here and it sounds good.

I've got the layout drawn and I'm ready to order boards. Yipee!

Ah - but will the AY chip out of an old Speccy work, as I thought you made use of some of the extra bits included in the Yamaha sound chip?

Good point Rich - that's correct. I'm using the internal clock divider. If an AY is used then there'll have to be an additional chip. I might put a place for that as an SMD component on the rear of the board for the more adventurous ;)

Additional chip ? Is this as a clock generator, or just a divider of the ZX clock ?
Guess if it's a generator you could use one of the DIL-8 or DIL-14 oscilator modules, few pennies more expensive, but might save having to have a crystal, resistors caps and an LS series chip.

Will the finished boards also support the 28 pin AY-3-8912, would be nice as I have a bunch of them, mind I do have some of the 8910s too...

But anyway I can comfirm that it works as I was there when it was tested !

Cheers.

The Yamaha clone chip that we'll be using (it's available - unlike the AY) has in internal clock divider so you just feed it the raw clock and tell it to do the division by pulling pin 26 low.

I'd personally rather not mess around by supplying 2 types of board but I guess there's some latitude for offering a board without a soundchip for those who already have a supply...

@Prime - The 8912/13 aren't pin-compatible - you'd have to build an adapter.

There are 137 of them available (at the time of posting) HERE for under £6 each delivered to the UK if anyone specifically needs one... unless it is the Yamaha clone. The description is none too clear.

Yeah but I suppose with some fancy routing you could put the socket holes on for both.....
See AY-adapter on the DB folder.....

We have a supplier of YM chips lined up so scarcity shouldn't be an issue - that's why I designed this with the YM in mind..!
