There were only two official versions (the first one “standard” having a bug, replaced with the “improved” ROM).

There have been a number of third party replacements that do things differently, often just further bug fixes.
This site has some...

Only with emulators that were designed to work with it. The ZX81 normal ROMs are 8K bytes in size, the ZX97 ROM is much larger.

There is also the ZX81x2 ROM which runs BASIC considerably faster and having programmed my own EPROM with this image can attest to its speed improvement.

Details here.

Hi,
Where is the question?
In the tread or in the header?

In my knowledge Coral Basic is not a new ROM, but an extension to Basic running from regular RAM.

So the Basic extensions (loaded and runned from RAM), that I know are:
  • Coral Basic
  • PowerBasic
  • HRG-ms (PowerBasic with Hires Graphics)

Is there a Forth ROM (or other language) that will work on the ZX81 Minstrel Clone by any chance (or real ZX81)?

Regards,

Shaun.

How can I tell which ROM I have without opening up the machine?
Also, is there a drop in EPROM I can program to replace the ROM with a variant or there is a need for some form of EPROM adapter?
