New 1K hires games here

Post by dr beep »

PONG wasn't available yet, but was shown in Cambridge.
Controls :
Left rows = left player
Right rows = right player
2x upper rows = up
2x lower rows = down
Start with space

Brand new is SALOON CITY, my 1K hires version of Westbank
You are the sheriff of SALOON CITY, a small town with 12 saloons. You make your patrol through the town to see if everything is OK.
When a bandit comes out, shout before time is up and he shoots you.
When a lady comes out, just wait till she passes.
When a hatboy comes out, just for fun shoot the hats. You will be rewarded with double points, but don't shoot the boy.

You are dead when
1) the bandit shoots you
2) you shot a lady
3) you shot the hatboy
4) time runs out.

After all saloons are checked you go up to the next level.
(need to shoot 1 hat more, time is less)

Controls:
123 for the saloons shown
O move left
P move right
Space start game

Known bug
sometimes the most right door indicator remains on.

Known incomplete code.
After dead on a higher level hats are not reset.

Have fun and leave your comment
(especially how it runs on a real ZX81)

I can't run pong on a zxpand-equipped machine. There is no movement evident when pressing the keys. There is some evidence of a display but mostly it's very corrupt. I haven't tried loading on a 1k device but I may be able to do that tomorrow.

There is some destructive tearing on saloon, but other than that it's looking good! It's a bit too fast for my slow old brain though ;)

Timing in the display might make too much lines, so this could be less!

For PONG start with SPACE!

Display is a default which I must repair in both games!

I've tested the new pong and indeed things are more interactive if I press space ;)

Interestingly on a base 1k zeddy loaded from 'tape' there was a trail of noise along the entire width of the screen on scanlines occupied by the ball. The right-most bat had a third line. The score was corrupt.

With the zxpand in place things are much clearer, there is no horizontal line of noise and both bats are clearly defined. The score is still corrupt, however. I suspect the speed of the RAM is helping here.

My phone is refusing to take a clear picture from my crt monitor so until I get the capture card working again you will have to do with less than 1000 words. Sorry.

A new version of SALOON CITY.

The bug at the end of the line is solved AND the hats from the hatboy are reset after death.

I also hope to have added a few top lines to get the score uncorrupted.

It really was a though job to get this into 1K.

Have fun,

Hrmmm,

I just noticed a strange score bug which was there all the time.

Saloon city looks good now, there is no corruption of the score line. There is a small tear in the top-left of the screen though, like the first hsync is late.

Pong is still corrupt at the top. Also the screen does not clear when first loaded; you need to start a game.

Dr Beep - can we help you find a real zeddy to test on?
