Just got news that a review of the videopac version of this game scored a 90% rating in a french print-magazine dedicated to retro gaming. A few quotes:

"The gameplay is perfect with and the animation is fluid."

"In a time where young kids have their Wii and Mario Kart 3DS, there has been a period where they been only be playing Mayhem at home! My Boy and girl even fight for it! The joy of entering your name on the internet only adds to this excitement!"

I agree the screenshots dont do the game justice. The gameplay is highly addictive and the character animation is really nice for just 4x6 subpixels ;-)

Also the Clive Junior character on the cover has been inspired by Sinclairs QL-jump commercial (as seen in the movie Micromen). The Clive Junior character will make a cameo in future games as well (such as stairrunner).

This game was a real hit yesterday, amongst young and old(er)..

Best score on the day was a whopping 177 !! Although at that point the customer felt that he had got too used to the pattern of the game, and could have carried on for much longer...

Makes my high score of 48 look downright appalling!

Good to hear! I just got back from another retro event and people enjoyed it as well! Some of them were really happy to see the ZX81 in action and liked the arcadey-ness of this game, as opposed to a lot of the slower-type games you see a lot on the zx81.

The problem is, I can't reasonably answer to this post, because seems like I'm the only person nowadays who makes music for ZX81.
But what I mean is: the trailer is BRILLIANT. But - about 20%-30% of this, makes... the music.

And............ it comes from GameBoy.

And now my dilemma is -
1) to suggest You to use any real ZX81 music
or
2) to keep my mouth shut. ;)

Of course synthesis of ZX81's YM/AY chip is different than GameBoy's sound-chip is, so I cannot provide You the same dynamic song. And actually I'm not even sure I could do this even if I wanted to, as I'm rather a 'continental' type of guy, so the Modern Talking is the style I love (hahaha), but it might be still a reasonable thing to do, while advertisement. Or not. ;) Maybe I'm wrong.

If You get Your target after all, it means to me: You make the ZX81 more famous. So we all win. ;)

Of course what would I know. I'm just thinking aloud, hahah.
