I've been working on a ZX81 version of the 1981 3D Star Wars game. It includes all three levels and the even the zoom in and out cinematics. The trench stage is slower than the others, but it is asking a lot from the ZX81 to draw the trench in 3D.
The game runs with colour and sound if you have a chroma and zonx add ons, but will run with just a 16K ram pack.
First shoot Tie fighters in space
Zoom in, and yes, that's a rendered picture being scaled, not individual pre-drawn frames which would have eaten too much memory.
Zoom along the surface and shoot the towers
Fight your way through the trench to reach the exhaust port
And here's the game. Please let me know if you find any bugs or can suggest any improvements.

Good heavens. A recognisable Atari Star Wars on the ZX81, what a ridiculous, amazing feat
Since you asked for suggestions, it'd be nice to have a readout of how many TIEs/towers you have to shoot to finish a level, and maybe some sort of slightly clearer indication of when you've been hit (a quick blink of the border? Flash up "R2!" onscreen?), but it's brilliant as it is

My quick box art:
Re: 3D Star Raid - Star Wars clone
Thanks for the artwork. The first stage does have a quota of tie fighters to shoot before you go to the next stage. The other two stages both use a countdown before moving to the next stage or reaching the exhaust port.
Re: 3D Star Raid - Star Wars clone
Here's an updated version of 3D Star Raid. It has a few bugs fixed but the most noticeable difference is that the second stage now has the same challenge to shoot a set number of towers for a bonus as the original Star Wars game had. A message at the top of the screen tells you how many towers left to get the bonus. Shoot 12 towers in level one or 15 in level 2.
Other improvements are better colour for the fonts when colour is used and a bug in the shield adding stage that appeared if you get 8 shields.
