My first ZX81 game

Post by sj_howlett »

I was looking through some old computer magazines and found my first ZX81 1K game called Ticking Bomb, which I submitted to Home Computing Weekly.

Very simple and very BASIC (lol) and they even paid me £25 for my efforts. As you can image I was so proud to have my game published in a magazine and what a treat to get paid too!

Incredible to think that programmer and user are communicating about this 30 years after the event through a forum accessible anywhere in the world.

I don't think we could have conceived such technology all the years ago.

Reminds me of that old Spectrum tape-magazine, 16/48. One month I had a 'letter' published, including my then-home address, which had a bit of 3D frame animation generated using VU-3D. Must have been around 1984 I suppose. Anyway, years later, could have been the 90s, I got a letter through the post from some 6 year old kid saying that he'd seen my letter in 16/48 and it was his "favourite game". :o :!:
