A direct conversion of Berzerk would have to done as a high-res game really, as there's not enough definition to do it justice as a single-screen game in low-res. However, it would be fun to do a scrolling game along a similar theme - VIRUS 2? (Paradroid?!)

I think so. I haven't written any kind of 3D race game yet, and like the idea of one, and it could work and be really fast in low-res. I've looked at DK'Tronics 3D Grand Prix as the competition, and I think I've got a fair chance of doing better - just as I felt with the Asteroids games of the time which led to writing Impact!
(If anybody knows of a decent 3D race game on the 81 let me know?)

How about a tower defence type game where you can place your towers and upgrade them - that could be fairly easily coded on the Zx81

Sorry, but I'm not very familiar with that genre, so I wouldn't know where to start. Perfectly happy for you to design something for me to code-up, if you'd be up for that?

And the VIRUS 2 is a nice idea too. ;)

The basic premise is that you hold a tower - there is normally one or more circuitous paths to the base and after a while enemies will come along one or more of those paths to attack the base. Enemies can be various types...

There are then strategically based platforms on the screen on which you can place a tower, or a wall maybe - you can choose what type of weapon to place on the tower - be it a slingshot, or a gun on which to shoot the attackers - the attackers will of course also try to attack the tower and barge their way through - some attackers may need several shots to kill them...

You start with (say) 1000 points points and get more for killing the attackers. Those points are used to determine how many towers you can build and what weapons you can use... However points reduce as time passes and damage inflicted by the attackers...

It is more strategy than anything over where to place your towers and which weapons to use to best advantage....

Kingdom Rush is a particularly fine example of the genre.

Looks interesting enough, but I think I'd need somebody to design the gameplay.
