What is considered the best ZX81 emulator for Macs that works with M1 CPUs?

I have not found any way to run the Windows emulators like EightyOne or VB81, as no virtualisation software seems to work on M1 Macs. To run these programs, I have an old laptop with Windows XP.

I primarily use ZXSP 0.8.0-pre27 to fast run ZX81 software. However this program does not support hires graphics like WRX, and does not support UDG either.

Then I use the JavaScript emulator http://rullf2.xs4all.nl/jszeddy/jszeddy.html, which supports most hardware.

Then I have tried to help BerryN to build a version of SZ81 for M1 Macs, however that is not easy, and I didn't have the time.

Here's the thread, and below is how far we got. If I start the binary on my Mac it works, however it needs and old version of SDL installed by Homebrew, and we didn't get finished releasing a macOS application. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4392

sz81 works perfectly on an M1!

You'll probably find Windows emulators work with Crossover!

It starts on my Mac Mini M1, but then it hangs and gets stuck If I try to 'load' a program.

I did not have that issue.

As the xs4all site is down, does anyone have the latest 2.3.11 source?

*phew* excellent news!

Works fine for me! (2.3.11)

Built against libsdl 1.2 installed using homebrew.

Had to edit sdl_main.c and sdl.h to remove the SDL/ from include statements.

But other than that it runs and can load games.
