Sorry I haven't been around
Sorry I haven't been around
I can't find a general chat area, so I'm posting here.
Apologies that I haven't been around for a while, but I've been having hand cramps holding a soldering iron. Turns out that it looks like I'm diabetic, so I've got to get that nailed before I can work on electronics reliably again. We're waiting for bloods to work out exactly how bad I am.
I'll be back... to quote Arnie.

Good luck with getting that sorted.
Might be time to do a little programming instead?

I can't. My workbench has an ill zeddy on it that needs to be mended, and then I'm hoping to get some joyboard parts and then I can do the wooden case zeddy... and then I can settle down to programming. It's just not the same on an emulator

Michelle.

Hi Michelle,
Sorry to hear that medical problems are affecting you.
I presume type 2 diabetes is suspected. If so, hopefully it can be controlled with changes to your diet or with medication.
Hope you get back to good health soon.
Mark

Thanks Mark.
We won't know what we're dealing with until the bloods come back, but I'm not wasting any time in altering my diet. The surgery is making people book more appointments to have their blood taken, rather than doing it there and then, in a bid to shorten GP workload/appointment time, so they won't actually take the blood until next week.
As long as I get back to being able to hold a soldering iron again, I'll be happy

If you haven't been suffering raging thirsts and hypo like sweats prior to your blood tests then you are probably type 2 like me and yes I can still wield an iron and ruin a circuit board with the best of them.

I can't actually grip it at the moment. Well, there's a few things I can't grip properly. My hands go into cramps.
I'll get there

Re: Sorry I haven't been around
I dodged the type 2 bullet a few years ago. After drinking WAY too much coffee for decades it became apparent I needed to cut down. Sadly I did not coincide this reduction of caffeine with improved sleep so made up for the lack of energy by eating more sweet stuff.
I had an MOT blood test which said my blood sugar was top end of the danger zone / pre type 2 diabetic even though I had no obvious symptoms.
So now very little caffeine and even less sweet stuff but everything is under control. Apart from never getting enough sleep.
I wish the caffeine related shakes would go away though. Soldering is Ok but painting Warhammer 40K figures for my son is a nightmare.

Re: Sorry I haven't been around
Are you sure about the coffee thing Lardo? perhaps it was the additions that most people have like milk, cream and sugar rather than a plain black coffee.
Most clinicians (my own diabetic team included) say caffeine can help reduce type 2.
