Hi,
At 13 I was given a 1k zx81 for my Birthday. It was my first computer and after many months I got the official 16k ram pack and enjoyed the repeated frustrations of lost programs when I'd almost finished typing them in!
I had later dalliances with an Apple IIe and an Amstrad CPC before entering the dark world of x86, MS-DOS and windows 3.1
Having found the jty emulator online I'm clearly older...but perhaps not wiser as I've just landed via eBay a zx81 40 years after my first encounter.
Whilst I made a passable attempt at programming BASIC back in the day, I never understood machine code. The journey of rediscovery has started.
I will no doubt be asking questions so apologies in advance and hello all!
Andy

Re: Newbie
Hello Andy,
the ZX81 is a simple computer to start machinecode.
The screen is just a block of text so a character to the screen is simple.
Ask what you want to know.
We all needed to learn it at one moment.

Re: Newbie
Thank you
I'm using an 'almost retro' 2010 macbook to run the zxsp emulator whilst I'm waiting on the actual ZX delivery.
My next mission is to work out how easily convert a version of a basic program file I've written in a text editor into one I can run in the emulator without access to (Or knowledge) of Linux or windows.
I'm trying to do everything without buying any more computer equipment!
So far my searches have taken down many rabbit holes
