It will be interesting to find out if you get the same. Probably best to keep all the bits you remove. Unfortunately I didn’t - having done this a number of times without issue I didn’t see the need.

This can take a dual stereo-to-mono lead.
I've found that the problem with modern metal film resistors is that compared with carbon film types they have thinner component legs, which isn't a problem most of the time.
