If it's a chip or other component that is the cause, a thermal IR camera may help.

FIXED Spectrum +2 grey 5V and 12V power short

Post by Rabs »

So I could not resist and bought a Topdon TC001.

Immediately I could see that R8 was hot.

So I then checked the 12V and sure enough I had a short there. I admit I could have just checked this with the multimeter, but not as much fun. :D

So knowing I already had a bad capacitor, I changed C6 and this also believed it was an inductor.

I changed C81 and C52 for good measure but not sure these were the problem, as they tested OK, and..

Working.

Thanks Mark again, for the tips on finding a short, which lead me to the first faulty capacitor.

Maybe I did not need the thermal camera but it was so much fun.

Will change the rest of the capacitors for good measure.
