That could be what I was half remembering about Sinclair cutting out the blank pages...(see above).

My speccy manual is third edition no ring binding, so as you have the full set, mark it's probably best if you could help Charles out as mine doesn't seem to line up with his chapter headings and to be honest after looking at the pics posted I'm not really sure whats needed.

I have in front of me:-

ZX81 Second Edition, black ring binder from Leagrave Press with 212 pages. Sinclair address is King’s Parade.

Spectrum Third Edition with black ring binder from Burlington Press with 192 pages. Sinclair address is Willis Road.

I will have a look through my others at some point.

Just the missing SYSTEM VARIABLES/ USING MACHINE CODE AND APPENDIX CHARACTER TABLE could probable come from any of the printed manuals regardless of the page numbers.

Story of my life. Looking one direction the clock spins behind me, then stops when I look at it. Then does it again.

Attached should be the zip file containing pages 171 to 189 from the first edition of the ZX Spectrum BASIC programming manual. Note that this version has some errors in it. Also, this copy has some hand written amendments and notes / marks.
