Yay!

Post by MikeW »

They've been in storage for probably 10 years. We moved house and had nowhere to put them. However, since moving again and me taking over the loft, I've got the chance to power everything back up again...

Anyone know the best place to get paper for my printer? lol

I want that cave  Mine has to get packed away at the end of an evening - it kind-of limits my enthusiasm at times...

Which leads me to my next question... Can anyone recomend some software for programming small programmable logic devices these days - PALs/GALs, that sort of thing. I do have a project I'm thinking of, but I feel a little out of the loop at the moment and could do with a few software suggestions...

Hi Mike.

I used WinCUPL for the GAL work on ZXpand. I found it quite hard to pick up but then I'm a bit dense. The documentation is fairly sparse but I found that a few good example code files filled in the knowledge. It does spoil you - now that I've used programmable logic I'm never going back to 'big ttl' jobs ;) I'm starting to look at bigger devices too, with the aid of Andy's Altera-based ULA, these things are just mind blowing. I've got some boards containing Xilinx chips for my Atom projects. The combined software bundle size for the dev kit for these chips weighs in at over 15GB though.

For GALs you can get wincupl from Atmel for the price of some information. It only targets Atmel device numbers, but the lattice ones are pin compatible. You used to be able to get it from Lattice but I think they're now absorbed by Atmel, ICBW. I can send you a couple of GALs to get you going.

Just ask if you need anything more.

Ahhh, I downloaded WinCUPL last night though I haven't had chance to take a look at it yet.

I did find my legitimate copy of Protel though. It's not exactly up to date, but I do have my custom libraries for ZX edge connectors and the like:

I opened up the sources for SpeccyBob and the copyright messages said (c) 2001 MD Wynne... it's been far too long.

I'll pm you reagarding the GALs, thanks.
