Sinclair ZX81 Timeline

Post by RWAP »

I thought it would be a good idea to create a timeline for the development of the Sinclair ZX81, but unfortunately, my knowledge is not sufficient.

So far I have:

March 1981 - Sinclair Research Limited launch the Sinclair ZX81 with 1K RAM - the first home computer for less than £100 (in fact it only cost £69.99 or £49.99 in kit form)

??? 1981 - 16K RAM pack launched by Sinclair

November 1981 - Sinclair Research Limited launch the ZX Printer - a thermal printer compatible with the ZX81 (although you needed an upgraded power supply) - cost was only £50

??? 1981 3D Monster Maze launched with a Tyrannosaurus Rex which scared a generation of teenagers experiencing their first home computer games.

??? Release of first full-sized keyboard for the ZX81

??? Release of Quicksilva sound interface
??? Release of Quicksilva hi-resolution graphics interface

??? 1982 - First hi-resolution game (Forty Niner) released which produced 256x192 resolution graphics on the ZX81 entirely in software.

1991 - Launch of the World Wide Web

May 2008 - Launch of the English ZX80/ZX81 Forums - http://www.sinclairzxworld.com

January 2011 - Release of Boulder Logic by Bob Smith

2010 - XX new games released for the ZX81

Mar 2011 - Soft Launch of the Sinclair ZXpand interface

May 2011 - Conversion of 'Nanako in Classic Japanese Monster Castle' released by the Mojon Twins

May 2011 - Official Launch of the Sinclair ZXpand Interface to the open market.

There is probably a lot more we should add!

Octobre 1996 : Release of SAM81, the low res ZX81 emulator on the SAM Coupe, based on the developmentcore of ZX81EMUL
April 1997 : Release of ZX81EMUL for the ZX Spectrum, the MC emulator that runs low res games on a ZX Spectrum.

April 2006 : As a tribute to 25 years of ZX81 the release of SAM2ZX81, the second ZX81 emulator for the SAM Coupe, now with Hires emulation.
April 2006 : The Hires emulator for the ZX Spectrum "Speccy81" isn't released due to lack of speed in emulation of the screen.
