Sinclair QL PCB Monitor Socket?

Post by kbjunkie »

Hey All,

I've just repaired a QL and have noticed that the monitor socket has bad connections.. I've done the usual, clean out the socket etc. but it feels physically loose when I plug the DIN->Scart into it. When it's in, I get a great picture but if I move the DIN plug, the picture distorts, loses colour etc.

I have resoldered all the joints on the socket but it's still the same. I desoldered the socket and discovered using my microscope that there are small cracks across 3 of the pins at the back of the socket where they go into the plastic of the socket.

So, now I'm on the hunt for a new socket - bought some from CPC which fit and work fine but the front of the new socket is too deep to fit in the bottom part of the case.. It looks like the original socket was more low profile than these new ones..

Does anyone have a source to get these sockets that will fit in the QL case?

Cheers,

Mark.

Sorry all - I just realised I'd posted this in a Spectrum hardware forum :D

We don’t have a QL section on this board, so I’ve moved this topic to the ‘Sinclair Misc’ section.
