I'll introduce myself...

Post by Andy Rea »

Hi,

My name is Andrew i have recently rediscovered my stash of ZX81 stuff :) i have 4 * zx81, 2 have 16Kram built in, 1 is standard, 1 does not work ULA missing, i have zx printer (silver rolls) working, and also alphcom printer, also i have 1 TS1500 whuch is what brought me here. So the question does the 16k/48k spectrum keyboard membrane fit the ts1500 :?: if so i'll gladdly buy one :D

Anyway the reason i went looking for my zx81's, has anybody seen the clocks made from old hard disk drives ? where a slot is cut into the platter and a light source (leds) is strobed from behind, with careful timing you can get the arms of the clock (slots of light) to appear in the same place everytime. um hang on maybe a youtube link would be better, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PENKhaxovTU something like that, using 3 different colours for each hour/minute/second hands.

I thought i would like to build this as a project but instead of buying Pic processors or some other programable device i would like to use what i have already and i enjoy the challenge of writting code that has to be very time (no pun intended) critical.

I'd also like to say there seems to be alot of information here for active users of zx81 thank you, no doubt i will have more questions when i think of them

All the best Andy

Hi Andy - welcome to the forums.

That hard disk clock is a new one on me - but an interesting project!

As for the TS1500 - yes, it uses the same keyboard membrane as the 48K ZX Spectrum, so that is a nice easy fix.

Thanks for that Rich, i have ordered a membrane from yourself and payed via paypal, much easier than filling in lots of details :)

The clock thing is interesting, i have already started work on it, it's tricky to get a stable strobe effect but not impossible.

Is it just me or is this the post that will never get old?

The question is whether it's Dorian Gray or Peter Pan...
