Hi,
Some time ago, I start my learning about the way to Read and Write data to Tape.
Like all of us know, the ZX81 do not have this kind of functions. And I want to include on my The Quill Adventure Writer the LOAD and SAVE facilities.
So I works hard hours and finally I write my "own" READ/WRITE Tape Routines. I put "own" because I look on the ROM, on the disassembly of HI-RES package and on some mag article that send me Xav.
Two days ago, a friend of mine, that know about my retro computing interests, give me a lot of Argentinian Mags. The name of the magazine is Micro Computación (I think that you do not need translation here).
And to my surprise in the first number that I look at, I found what I was looking for... a couple of READ and WRITE routines, those are more like the TK85 ROM routines, letting you SAVE and LOAD the first BASIC array to tape.
I do read the article in a couple of minutes and then I start my Development Environment in order to test the routines. I use PASMO assembler on the PC, EO and VB81_XUR emulators too.
If you read to this point, your question will be: why the "Old Development Tools" subject ?
Because in the assembly listing you can see that the author is AL SEHMER, somebody knows this person ? or knows in witch mags or newsletter he writes ?
And you can see too that he used an Cross Assembler, but I'm asking witch one ? do you know about cross assemblers dated on 1982 ???
Well, like in all my posts, I like to apologize by my very bad english.
I will be very happy if we can put some light on this questions.
Thanks,
Gus

Re: Old Development Tools
It looks very much like the assembler Mike Costello used in His book, Advanced programming for the ZX81. Used on a TRS-80 it was called EDTASM+.
Also My Memotech assembler pack has a similar output. Mike Costello's book has a few listings for reading and writing tapes, although His tone throughout the book suggests he hated the Zeddy, it's stiil worth seeking out.

Hi Moggy !
do you know if Mike Costello's book is available in digital form ?
The assembler that Costello used in his book, runs on the ZX81 or in a PC ?
Thanks
Gus
