ZX81 references in Academic Journals

Post by swensont »

I've been looking at the ZX81 from the point of using it for comutation work. I did some Google searches looking to see if I could find any reference to the ZX81 in academic publications. I found a number and I thought that readers on this board might find them interesting.

Only a few of the articles are available for free. A number are locked behind a paywall for the different journals. Those that are free, a couple have program listings, and one has some hardware design diagrams. For a number of them, the ZX81 meant that grad students or underfunded departments could get access to a computer. In 1983, the ZX81 was selling for under $100 and a full system would cost less than $300 (including things like an A to D converter). At the same time a full blown IBM PC was in the thousands of dollars.
