AY course
AY course
Just to say hello!
I've been 'away' - which is code for my employers asking me to actually do some work over the last 18 months, at not inconsiderable inconvenience I might add. I missed the bonhomie of this forum and spending blissful hours with the zxpanded zx81!
Returning to where I left off I'm still stuck on the AY.
Is there a course anywhere yet (whole day, half day) devoted to the mysteries of direct musical composition with the AY on the zx81? ie direct as is I were doing it with midi as opposed to ...erm...programming.
Thought I'd start off with something simple!
best wishes to all
Jeff

Re: AY course
Hi Jeff,
Your best (only?!) bet for composition is to use Andy's tracker. I'm not familiar with its use but there should be some documentation around as it's a conversion of the spectrum tool. I hope this provides a good jumping-off point for you!
Welcome back

Ah! Sir M, blessings!
I shall go prospecting through that thread, it looks very absorbing (so that's this weekend sorted!).
I did connect (couldn't resist connecting) the zxpand+AY to a Roland SH201 synth and the output is quite awesome - how wonderful it would be to be able to reverse the flow and record to the SD card from the keyboard!
So, date with Andy's tracker it is!
thanks again!

Re: AY course
Hi,
I made pretty huge instruction about the best (and the only?) ZX81 music tool for AY:
http://chipmusic.org/forums/topic/6668/ ... tion-ayym/
Using it on real machine is nice and pleasant, btw.
Greetz,
Y

Hello yerzmyey!
That looks really interesting! I follow 81% of the page - though it looks like the download link is now broken????? I saw lots of really interesting tutorial pages - marvelous!
I'd like to give it a go. Thanks for posting the page.
How far is Rubber Land from Winchester by the way?

Re: AY course
The soundtracker program appears at the first post on:
soundtracker-for-zx81-t556.html?t=556#wrap
Not sure if this was updated to a later version - Andy Rea says that he deleted later versions and moved them to this first post - so presume this is it...

Re: AY course
I instinctively reached for the 'like' button for the posts above ☝ - but there doesn't seem to be one...
Sadly (especially for those around me), I extended my music education at the expense of properly probing the dark underbelly of Z80 programming. I regret that now as I didn't turn out to be mozart at the keyboard after all. Mind you I may well not have got any further with the Z80 either.

I'm glad I could help. Also, I will check out those links later. Have to find some time, y'know.

The SoundTracker rulez big time. I use it more rarely last times only because I lost my ZX81 with a good keyboard (original one). But I will return to it anyway, in a few months at most. Which would mean the beginning of 2014, supposedly. If not sooner.

Arrrrrgh. Far enough, I'm afraid. Mostly due to the the Pound currency's exchange rate, hehehe.
So this distance isn't actually measured in miles nor kilometres.
Best wishes,
Y
