Bootsector of laptop broken.

Post by dr beep »

Hello,

My laptop isn't starting anymore so I need to make a startable USB to access my harddrive with on it some unfinished software.
Also most sources are still on it. Luckily the software is on the net (.p files) but I need to make a fix.
On the same laptop I have Ubuntu still running and my book about politics is in backup on usb and in Ubuntu.

Wish me luck making a bootable usb.

So far... Windows won't start, but partition with data can be read again.
Copying data is next step to accomplish.

Windows is running again, my partition is accessable.

I lost 1 page of a book I am wrting. Due to the resinstallment I lost startup op LINUX and it might be on another partition but not yet visible.

All ZX81 data is back online, like the all games book.

I'm using ZFS since around 2004 (I installed Solaris JUST for using it!), and thought ZRAID was a nice and efficient way to store data, but with all my systems changes, apartment movements, and poor compatibility at the end I didn't fully used it.
But since when I got the fear to have lost almost all my data on a 2TB drive and investigated rescue companies, I abandoned all the hesitations and moved the main system on a 3 full copies replication (zfs raid1) with an offline backup done once a month or two (updated with syncoid) just in case. I have the problem to live in 2 distant locations and still not wanting to expose none of them on the internet, but almost everyone else should be fine.
This is a suggestion for everyone for the data he cares.
