ZX81 Mouse Mat
My old mouse mat died today (or rather, was put out of its misery) so I'm having a new one made to my own design. I'm just getting one made first, in case it turns out rubbish, but if its okay then I'll order some more if anyone's interested. They work out at less than £4 each. It's the kind with pr...

Re: Timex Sinclair 1000/ZX81 Cassette Recorder Requirements
Haha Mark... well, some would hate a switch to the Euro (can't see that ever happening, personally) but the company I work for would make bucket loads out of consultants fees for "upgrading" our clients systems to deal with it!

Re: My first ZX81 game
Reminds me of that old Spectrum tape-magazine, 16/48. One month I had a 'letter' published, including my then-home address, which had a bit of 3D frame animation generated using VU-3D. Must have been around 1984 I suppose. Anyway, years later, could have been the 90s, I got a letter through the post...

Re: Timex Sinclair 1000/ZX81 Cassette Recorder Requirements
LOL, I'm not making myself clear... the Sony one that was recommended is on eBay (several auctions) priced around £15 used. That's what I'm trying to say!
Edit: Oh I see, you're in the States? I'm sorry, I thought you kept saying it was £30 !

Re: TS1000 a new life
Hi there, I'm fascinated to see that your TS1000 appears to have metal shielding inside. I'm pretty sure the ZX81 in the UK didn't have that!

Re: Timex Sinclair 1000/ZX81 Cassette Recorder Requirements
I have been on eBay and I have seen loads of inexpensive tape recorders, but I don't know which one to get because the Timex Sinclair 1000 seems to be picky about what cassette recorder it uses. Would you recommend a good type of recorder (e.g. Panasonic Slimline, not just Panasonic.) Thanks What I...

There are several on eBay in the £15-£20 price bracket, if you don't mind a used one.

Re: Timex Sinclair 1000/ZX81 Cassette Recorder Requirements
Odd!!!
Out of interest, if you plug an earpiece into the EAR socket of the GE, do you hear anything when you play the tape? Perhaps the socket simply isn't working properly.

Re: Timex Sinclair 1000/ZX81 Cassette Recorder Requirements
One thing to try is to only keep one of the plugs connected at a time - the EAR plug when loading, and the MIC plug when saving. For some recorders, when you SAVE with both plugs connected it sets up a feedback loop which ruins the recording.

Re: ZX81 Hi Res Games
And I would add, that if the likes of Wilf Rigter had been in the lab on the day they were putting together the ZX81, it may well have been launched with hi-res capability in ROM right out of the box. Oh for hindsight!
