Re: RAM speed issue
It's extremely unlikely that TR1 is causing an issue. Transistors in circuits like this are not under any stress whatsoever, and transistors are fairly hardy and reliable devices. I'm sorry that I can't help you much. But with edge cases especially when it comes to timing issues, they can be extreme...

Re: Eightyone emulator not recognizing cursor keys as joystick
@Crayon21, in your original program, you are not actually using X to set the print position. You are using J and K. That's why the program appears to ignore the cursor keys. Mark I'll give this a go, thanks I can get left but it goes right when I hit the edge of the screen. is there a corrected rom...

Re: Is it just my imagination or are X and Y flipped?
I assume you are talking about the PRINT AT a,b ? In BASIC in general, only TAB is universally supported. Individual BASIC implementations hence use their own systems. It's just something you have to get used to. If it helps, it's the character position, hence not graphics related. With a character ...

Re: I've borked it
"These aren't the droids you're looking for". If, and it's a big if, I can find a little time at the weekend, I want to try something which may or may not help. Far too tired now. Dogs woke me at 04:50 just before my alarm was due to go off, as I had to catch an early train to take me to London. Now...

Re: Zeddy displaying wrong characters on screen
Don't forget, with 16K bytes of RAM, you get a fully expanded display file, and it can be in a different position in RAM.

Re: multi-statement in zx81 basic?
ZX81 BASIC only allows one command per line. IF being a "special" case, but you can only have one command after the THEN, the THEN being mandatory.
Of course, you can have another IF after the THEN. You can also have a complex expression as part of the IF.

Re: Which joystick for Spand?
Atari set the "standard" for joysticks that use switches and which use a 9 pin D connector. Commodore 64 and Amiga use the same. By Sinclair / Spectrum, that depends on if it's meaning for use with a joystick interface, which will be to the Atari "standard" or to Amstrad's bizarre rewired arrangemen...
